Seek The Lord
The Intercessor’s Corner
by Elder Tamu Hatcher
In our last submission, we talked about the “ask” of prayer and learned that asking is the first kind of prayer, according to Matthew 7:7-8: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (NIV). Have you taken the courageous step to “ask” God for anything in the past month? Have you received from God what you asked for? I am hopeful that you are on your way to establishing a relationship with God where you get to know Him more intimately.
For this submission, let’s talk about the “seek” of prayer. Seeking is a matter of paying attention with an engaged mind and acute awareness. It is more than asking; it is a setting of priorities and a focusing of the heart. The “seek” of prayer will lead us to a more effective prayer life as our relationship with God grows and becomes more intimate. This is the prayer to pray when we have a sincere desire to know God’s will for our lives. This prayer opens a dialogue of communication where God inclines our ears to hear Him and moves us to obedience in the direction He is calling us and with the instruction He provides.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV). When Israel sought God, things went well, but
when their desire to seek Him waned, sin increased and communication with God ceased. Do you feel that God is far from you in this season? I have those feelings at times and have found it most difficult to recover from them without prayer and worship. In these times, I give God back His Word and His promises to me.
Are you ready to begin your “seek” journey of prayer? Be mindful that this is a journey that requires patience, faith, and the dedication of both heart and mind. I will be praying for the readers and believers who embark on this quest, and I await the testimonies that will come. Again, keep watch for God because He is always listening, knowing, and ready to answer, which serves as a comforting assurance to those of us who seek Him earnestly.
